Kale provides some of the best cover, but the problem is establishment, attention to detail is the key.
• Establish a stale seedbed • Check the soil for pH & nutrient status (apply lime if
required, also helps with club root) • Spray off weeds as close to sowing as possible • A fine seed bed is essential (ensure moisture is conserved) • Use Trifluralin herbicide pre-drilling • Don't drill too deep • Monitor crop daily to check for flea beetle (spray immediately pest is seen, repeat applications are usually required) • Don't forget to feed the crop, Kale has a high requirement for nutrients
